     Say what you see

FROM the relative comfort of gentle entertainment to the world’s scariest comedy venues which demand ‘laughter or death’ Phil Walker, City Life Comedian of The Year 2002, sure has caused a ripple of laughter throughout the land and is hotly tipped to be the next big thing in comedy country.

Son of Roy ‘Catchphrase’ Walker, Phil, made his leap-frog into comedy just two years ago and has quickly retraced the footsteps of Peter Kay and Steve Coogan in winning the penultimate Mancunian comedy award – an accolade passed only to the cream of the comedy crop.

Phil’s act has taken him to some weird and  wonderful places, from a scout hut in the Shetland Isles, to a portacabin in The Falkland Islands, basically he’ll go anywhere for a laugh! From one extreme to the other, he has played Buttons in panto and performed in a theatre, in Sarajevo, to an audience of wartime soldiers on standby "I’ve played to some tough crowds before, but they were never armed with machine guns! Thank God they liked me!!"

nimble violinist

A big fan of the Manchester comedy scene Phil has played the circuit like a nimble violinist, appearing at the hottest of spots including The Comedy Store, The Frog & Bucket and The Buzz.

“The Buzz and Frog & Bucket are great comedy rooms for different reasons the buzz are a listening crowd who really appreciate their comedy, The Frog is sometimes on a knife edge which keeps you on your toes!”

He believes there’s something a bit special about Mancs “I think Manchester audiences are very fair and up for it because they know their comedy – they’re not afraid to let you know if they think you’re crap! Equally they give a great response if they like you ... top folk in my book!”

there's always panto

His alternative brand of observational humour and huge presence has established him as a firm favourite on the Manchester circuit and guarantees a new breed of comedy. If all else fails there’s always panto … “You never know – next year I might get panto. I’d make a good Buttons.”
